They are everywhere! Time and again we hear from our guests that they have lived their whole lives never having seen our magestic national bird in real life. Well up here they are so plentiful, you can’t go a day without spotting them. In fact estimates say their are anywhere from 15,000 to 30,000 Bald Eagles here.
There is a wonderful amount of wildlife in Juneau, Alaska. But what most people want to know is “Will we see bears in Juneau?”.The answer is: You just might! They aren’t quite as people friendly as Yogi and Boo Boo, but some lucky tourists have indeed spotted them these last two weeks. Your best chance is walking the trails at the Mendenhall Glacier. When the salmon start running, which will be any day now, the bears are right there to catch their favorite lunch. Don’t forget to look up as well, as the bald eagles are also actively looking for some fishy treats. Use caution and don’t approach them, but have your camera ready because they are beautiful! Just look at this young one spotted this summer by one of our staff!

When the crusie ships show up in Juneau, this town of 30,000 residents comes alive! This year Juneau has renovated the port to make it more accessable to our floating guests, there are new shops and restaurants, but best of all, amazing tours! The cruise ships offer many things for sale, but remember you will get a better price and a wonderful taste of the local culture if you book with a local company-namely Juneau Tours! We have been told that the crusie ships lead you to believe that you might miss your ship if you book local, but that isn’t true at all. Our whole business revolves around the ships coming in and out of Juneau, so we build our schedule accordingly. We have never left a man behind! Or woman for that matter…

One thing comes to mind when imagining the weather in Alaska-snow. But here in Juneau there is so much more to it! For the last three weeks we’ve been enjoying sunshine, the snow atop our mountains was dwindling and creating dramatic waterfalls . It was beginning to look like the 50th state, rather than the 49th. But then Sunday we had a day of much needed rain. Once the clouds cleared, the peaks around Juneau were once again covered in dramatic fashion with the lovely white stuff.
